Gatorade sent Hunt + Capture around the country to create video for #thedebut, a live-stream Twitter campaign that featured eight high school basketball games highlighting players who show the promise of becoming future NBA stars. Our footage was used for, pregame teasers, halftime spotlights, highlight reels and recap videos. Each of our halftime spotlights were viewed between 3-4 million times!
Along with Gatorade and Hunt + Capture, the creative team included the digital agency VML, Intersport and of course Twitter. The on-location commentators of #thedebut were Rachel Demita, host of NBA 2K TV, and former NBA players Baron Davis and Nate Robinson.
Because of the quick turnaround, shot and edited in less than 24hrs, we had to rely on our creative problem solving skills to work around a number of challenges. Once on site, we scouted the locations at the school, captured b-roll of the locations and teams, and filmed the interviews. Each location had its own set of challenges such as last minute location changes, injured athletes, unavailable coaches or some other curveball. We met each challenge with a light footprint approach, quick problem solving, and adaptability to create the content needed in time for each halftime spotlight.
